Subject: Wet Tropics

I'm in Ingham -- the start of the "wet tropics" and as it happens it's raining!! Well drizzling anyway; more nuisance value than anything. I hope to depart tomorrow (Saturday) but that depends a bit on the weather. Don't mind riding in the wet (as long as it's not too heavy) but I prefer not to pack up my tent when it's wet, and I try to avoid putting my tent up in the wet. That's murder!!

A limit of 30 mins here in the library, and I've only a few minutes left (again!!!) so I'll tell you quickly that I've made an executive decision (two actually). This first is that I won't after all ride as far as Mossman before going to the Tablelands -- instead I'll take the train up from Cairns. I'm very aware that I'm running out of dry season fast and I want to start going west as soon as possible.

The other is that when I get to Mount Isa I'm going to "cheat" i.e. catch buses over the long bits.

Tell you more about that next time.
Don.
