By the way it's a pity that my Hervey Bay instalment took so long to reach you, but better late than never. And by the way, speaking of Hervey Bay, I am still remembering just how amazed I was at the sheer size of the place; it's HUGE!! The approach was really ugly as I said, past a number of factories and motor car sales yards. Ugly!! And you can't even see the beach from the main road, so you wouldn't even guess that you were at the seaside at all. And there is an enormous shopping complex every few blocks or so. And all on the back of the tourist industry -- apparently most of that from the fad for whale watching. If the whales decided not to migrate that way, the whole place would collapse in a heap.

Actually, Maryborough is my favourite town so far. Had a really nice feel about it. Quiet, attractive, totally free of commercialization. Gladstone on the other hand is nothing really out of the box. I've been to a couple of lookouts that frankly weren't worth the climb.

Anyway, it rained last night -- a really huge downpour -- 35 ml in a few hours. But my dear little tent came through with flying colours (again!)

Seems I've run out of time again, just when I was getting started. More next time.

Departing tomorrow. Next stop Rockhampton.
Don.
